This fall equine photography session took place at Blue Heron Equestrian in Troy, Ontario — a calm, scenic location with warm seasonal colour surrounding the property.
The rustic fence running along the grounds provided a clean, natural backdrop for beautiful horse portraits.
Fall has a softness to it, and that set the tone from the moment we began.

Blue Heron Equestrian
Blue Heron offered the ideal setting for this equine session — a rustic fence, open space for movement, and fall colours wrapping around the property. The space allowed us to create gorgeous horse portraits without any distractions for the animal.
Rest assured, I prioritize animal comfort and safety, ensuring a relaxed environment for your horse during the session.

Supporting Horse Animal
Emma’s horse feels more at ease when his emotional-support companion is nearby, so we tailored the session to prioritize his comfort.
A calm horse is key for successful equine photography, and providing him with space and patience allowed authentic expressions to emerge naturally.
Nothing was rushed — everything unfolded at a pace that kept him relaxed.

Autumn Equine Photography
Fall in Troy showed up in full colour — golden and red leaves mixed with warm earthy tones throughout the property.
These colours worked beautifully with the fall equine portraits, giving each frame strong seasonal character.
The mix of light and colour added dimension to the outdoor horse photography without pulling attention away from the moments in front of the camera.

Equine Outfit Ideas
Emma’s outfits worked beautifully with the fall colours. Her first look — jeans, a soft sweater, and a hat from Nikki’s Western Outfitter — paired naturally with the warm tones around us.
Her second outfit, a denim dress, brought a simple, polished look that photographed well for her horse and rider photos.
Both outfits supported the look and feel of the session without pulling attention away from the portraits.

Golden Hour Equine Session
As the sun dipped lower, the session moved into golden hour — the most flattering light for horse photography.
Here’s why this time of day works so well:
- Soft light smooths edges, creating gentle transitions across the horse and rider.
- Colours intensify, especially fall tones, adding richness without harsh contrast.
- Light catches subtle details, giving portraits a warm, cinematic finish.
Golden Hour Portraits
Toward the end of the evening, Emma’s best friend Shae joined the session. We created beautiful equine portraits of her with the horse, the same horse that brings her comfort and emotional support.
The golden hour light wrapped around them, making these portraits among the strongest moments of the day.

Equine Rider Photography
The final part of the session focused on Emma working with her horse in a way that felt natural to them.
Small interactions — a shift of posture, a glance, a hand on the lead — gave us clear moments to capture beautiful equine photos.
Each one showed a different side of their connection.
